CAMERARCHIVE

NORFOLK BASED PHOTOGRAPHER // COURTNEY JAY
I am a Lincolnshire-born photographer, recently relocated to Norfolk. My work is driven by a lifelong passion for the environment and wildlife, and I find great joy in being immersed in nature with a camera in hand, capturing the details that inspire me. Alongside my love for the natural world, I am also drawn to street photography, fascinated by the diversity of human life and the stories people carry in their everyday moments.
I graduated from the University of Lincoln with Upper Second-Class Honours in Photography, where I developed both technical expertise and a deeper understanding of visual storytelling. I am now dedicating my time to refining my portfolio in preparation for future opportunities within the photography industry.
THE DIVINE FEMININE.
This project focuses on the representations of femininity and female connection to the Earth through the Wiccan religion. All visual elements included in these images have been creatively thought out, including the colours, flowers and the moon phases, which all have different representations of femininity and religious elements. I focused my research on The Divine Feminine, and the spiritual connections to the Earth, while learning more about Wicca, and the importance of the moon in their practices. Pink, orange and purple highlights and backgrounds were used to portray femininity and the softness, kindness and delicateness that women possess, while the flowers are connected to the energy they hold. This is different from my usual work as instead of showing the negative impacts on the planet, I wanted to show how important it is to embrace it's natural beauty.

STRIPPED
'Stripped' was a project I worked on for my final exhibition at the University of Lincoln. I wanted to focus on plastic pollution in our oceans due to it being a topic I feel deeply connected to. I have always been emotional about the irreparable damage we are doing to our Earth and wanted to create something that is harsh and confronts viewers with nothing but the evidence of our part in ocean pollution. I wanted viewers at the exhibition to be able to stop and look at the images, making them think about the issue and create change in their everyday habits to help reduce single-use waste.
'By isolating individual pieces of plastic found on UK beaches, this project removes them from the environment to expose the full extent of humanity’s role in ocean pollution. Presented clinically, each fragment becomes silent but damning evidence of a world drowning in it's own waste.'

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
I shot a vow renewal for this beautiful couple who wanted updated photos from their first wedding. It was the first wedding I have shot, and the experience was beautiful. It was an honour to document this special day for them, and I was very grateful to be a part of it.
